Location:    Bangladesh is located in the delta of three major rivers – the Ganges, the Brahmaputra, and the Meghna. The country is criss-crossed by 230 rivers. Flooding is a yearly occurrence during and after the monsoon season (June-October).

Area:    130,170 sq. km (the size of Wisconsin, slightly larger than Greece)  

Population:    147 million (25% urban, 75% rural)

                     2,850 people per sq. mile

                     Nearly 60% under age 25, only 3% older than 65

Religion:    Muslim 83%    Hindu 16%    Christian <1%

Currency:    Taka (about 62 Tk /US dollar)

Life Expectancy:    Male 62.5 years

                            Female 64.2 years

Infant Mortality:    54 per 1000 live births

Child Mortality – deaths before the age of five:    73 per 1000 live births
