The Healing Hand of God

A one month old baby girl named Hawa came to the LHCB Hospital and was diagnosed with third degree malnutrition, severe dehydration and no urine output. Since birth, she was fed only rice dust and sugar because her mother was also sick and severely anemic. Her father is a day laborer, and the family lives hand to mouth. Hawa is the second child for the family. Both Hawa and her mother were admitted to the hospital for treatment.

For 2 days Hawa had no urine output and the doctors feared her kidneys had failed. Recommendation was made to the family to take Hawa to a tertiary hospital for better management and treatment, but they could not afford the journey or the treatment. Hawa’s only hope was with the care given to her by the LHCB medical staff.

Doctors did their best to make Hawa comfortable and provided every opportunity for her survival. Prayers were offered and, many believe, were answered when five days after admission, Hawa began to recover. Hawa’s mother was beyond words and could only smile in gratitude at what she saw as a miracle of God.
